Planning for life after school is a significant milestone that requires clear pathways and reliable support. We recently attended another Transition Fayre at Chiltern Wood School, showcasing what we offer to help young people with additional needs move confidently into adulthood.

The Power of Face-to-Face Connection

In a world of digital interactions, we love real-life conversation. We met with families of young people who are all asking the same vital questions:

• How do clients gain independence?

• Where are the social hubs after leaving school?

• What does a "typical" day look like at Oak Lodge?

• Can they continue their favourite activities?

It was also lovely to meet families of some of our current clients or clients that are about to start with us.

Key Takeaways from the Day

At each fayre we learn something new about the current landscape of SEND (Special Educational Needs and Disabilities) provision for school leavers. Here’s what we gathered this time around:

• Community is Key: There is a growing need for local, community-based hubs that offer more than just a service, but a sense of belonging that will foster independence. This is especially so for that time right after school.

• Early Preparation: Families are starting these conversations earlier than ever, which is fantastic. The more time we have to plan, the smoother the journey. So please do get in contact even if there is a year or two before your person is due to leave their current school or college.
